Coconut Oil For Hair Growth

How can you use coconut oil for hair growth? Well, coconut oil won't influence your genetically pre-determined capacity to grow your hair. Neither will it supply you the vitamins, protein, and other nutrients you need for healthy hair.

But what it can do is help protect your hair from the protein-stripping effect of regular shampoo, as well as nourishing the hair shaft to create stronger hair that is less prone to breaking.

And strong hair is more likely to last long enough to get to the length you want.

Using coconut oil for hair growth is particularly important if you use one of the regular shampoos. Regular shampoos strip the hair shaft of protein over time. You may have noticed, if you're a little older, that after a lifetime of washing your hair it's getting thinner.

Of course, medical conditions can make hair thin too, particularly with the thyroid, although taking virgin coconut oil internally is said to support the thyroid. If your hair is thinning an you're concerned it may be a thyroid issue, as well as seeing your doctor you may want to start taking 3 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil a day. It can be used in cooking, on oatmeal, or in a number of creative ways. It can even be taken straight. Virgin coconut oil has a fresh coconut scent and pleasant taste.

One of the best ways to use coconut oil for hair growth is to give your scalp a massage with coconut oil at least twice a week. Some people do it every day, or at least every day that they wash their hair. This is particularly good for those who are losing their hair as well.

If you live where it is cooler and the coconut oil is solid, do not microwave it. To melt it, just put some in a glass in a bowel of hot water. Then apply it to your scalp, and gently massage it for about 15 minutes. You can then wash your hair as normal. You might want to run your oiled fingers through your hair at the start of the treatment so that all your hair is coated. Leave it on for at least 20 minutes. This will allow enough time for the coconut oil to be absorbed into the hair shaft. This will help strengthen it, add shine, and protect the hair from protein loss when you shampoo.

Be careful to use only virgin coconut oil for hair growth treatments. The regular, refined coconut oil doesn't have the fatty acid profile that is needed for effective hair treatments. Virgin coconut oil does. You can get a good virgin coconut oil here.
